Guitar Basics 1

This course is an introduction to the guitar, guitar technique, the music played on the guitar, and some important icons in guitar performance. It is an entryway to an awesome world of playing the guitar in many styles. By taking this course, you are preparing yourself for a lifetime of making music for your own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. In addition to being enjoyable, learning how to play the guitar will provide you with an understanding of the mechanics of stringed, fretted instruments making it easier to pick up and learn other stringed, fretted instruments (ukulele, bass, mandolin, and banjo) later if you choose.


Guitar Basics 2

This course builds on note reading, strumming, playing chords, learning songs, and the other skills developed in Guitar Basics 1. In Guitar Basics 2 you will increase your chord knowledge and ability, gain more experience reading notation, and learn different styles of music on the guitar including fingerpicking and blues. There are a lot of things to learn in this course, so we encourage you to take your time and practice consistently. As you do this, you will steadily increase in ability, find more satisfaction from playing the guitar, and by the end of the course, you will be a strong guitar player who is ready to tackle a wide variety of songs and styles of music.

Guitar Basics 1

Welcome to Guitar: Basics 1! This course is designed to get students excited about playing guitar by serving as an introduction to the instrument, playing technique, types of music, and important figures in guitar performance. By taking this course students will learn how to play properly and how to read standard notation and tablature, chord diagrams, and chord charts. Students will also learn guitar care, maintenance, history, composition, and performance techniques. They will develop the ability to hear technique in other players and work to refine this listening skill. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they made and will be ready for the next semester! This course is an entryway to an awesome world of playing in many different styles. By taking this beginner course, students are preparing themselves for a lifetime of making music for their own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others.


Guitar Basics 2

Welcome to Guitar: Basics 2! This course builds upon the ideas and concepts taught in Guitar: Basics 1 and will further aid students in mastering the fundamentals of guitar playing. In Basics 2, students will increase their chord knowledge and ability, gain more experience reading notation, and learn different styles of music on the guitar, including fingerpicking and blues. Through studying different kinds of scales, harmonic progressions, and playing techniques, students will have the tools and know-how to begin composing and soloing throughout the course. Students will also learn about the history of the modern guitar, examining important players and styles of music. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they made and will be ready for the next semester!
